Sometimes we forget that doctors are simply people. With faults, fears, strengths and inadequacies.
This beautiful photograph doesn’t just show a doctor overwhelmed with sadness at his inability to save a young patient. It also shows his difficulty dealing with something out of his control. Even the best, most devoted doctors must learn that not everything in their practice can be controlled.
My favorite part about this photo is that, after taking the time to grieve, the doc held his head up high and went back into the ER to keep on trying. Because that’s all we can do as humans, right?
