I’ve been on a mission to eliminate and detox my home of toxins! More about that here.
My new focus? Finding alternatives to cleansers and common household cleaners that are full of toxins and chemicals. This is especially important in the kitchen where all our food is prepared!
If you are ready to take steps with me in moving towards a chemical-free kitchen, here are a few all-natural kitchen cleaning tips to help you get started!
- Vinegar is your Best Friend!
- Use a mix of vinegar and water to clean chrome or stainless appliances.
- Clean baking sheets with baking soda and vinegar.
- Clean burnt pots and pans with baking soda and vinegar.
- Wooden Surfaces
- Use a mix of lemon and salt to clean cutting boards and other wooden surfaces.
- Shine your Sink Surfaces
- Use baking soda and rubbing alcohol to polish your sinks.
- Natural Odor-Eliminators
- Cook up a batch of citrus peels, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in a pot of water on your stove to eliminate any smells.
- Microwave Away Germs
- To kill the bacteria on your sponges, microwave a damp sponge for two minutes.
- Drain Unclogger
- Pour ½ cup soda, then ½ cup vinegar, down a clogged drain. Cover it with a wet cloth, wait 5 minutes, uncover, and flush with steaming-hot water.
- Lemon-Fresh
- To freshen up your garbage disposal, pop a few slices of fresh lemon down the hatch while running the disposal and water.
- For the washer, skip the bleach and add 1/4 to 1/2 cup lemon juice to the wash cycle for brightening dull whites.
- Veggie Cleanse
- Save your hard earned money and avoid ditch the “veggie wash” concoctions out there.
- Clean dirt from green leafy vegetables by washing them in a bath of salt water.
