Yes, it’s true – the toymaker has a spread with some interesting tidbits aimed at 5-10 year old girls, such as:
“know the shape of your face to choose the right haircut”
and
“when you blow dry your hair, apply heat serum first”
and
“be sure to discuss the look you want with your stylist”
Really LEGO? Is it not enough that our magazine covers and TV ADs flaunt “perfect” beauty ideals that our girls see every day? On line at the drugstore with my daughter the other day I actually tried to block her from seeing the latest magazine cover stating “HOW TO MAKE YOUR BUTT SMALLER.”
Now I have to be concerned that a toymaker is going to be suggesting she rethink how she looks? At age 8? Shameful.
I’ve been thrilled that my daughter loves LEGOS the way my son does! After all, how many girl-targeted toys out there involve building from scratch and encourage creative thinking?
Of course she will still be encouraged to build her lego sets, but you can be sure I won’t let that magazine or anything like it near her…..as much as I can control that.
I don’t know about all of you, but I try daily to teach my kids that BEAUTY IS WITHIN. It’s a daily struggle, mostly because of what I can’t control that’s out there. What do YOU think of lego’s magazine???
